14 Hours of Downtime…

I woke up yesterday to find my websiteS (yes, a capital S) are all down.

It turns out that my website hosting suspended my account for being 4 days late on my payment. They couldn’t get payment from my card and decided to suspend my account. And worse, because of that, I couldn’t use my email and that made it difficult to get in touch with them.

Even worse than that, their billing department opens from 9am to 6pm EST, and I discovered my websites were no longer online at about 7am Kuala Lumpur time, about 7pm EST. I had to wait 14 hours to get all these settled.

I don’t know any service or business that shuts you out like that immediately. Some businesses will let the service run for at least 14 days, while trying to contact you and collect payment.

OK, OK… I didn’t update my credit card details. But 4 days late? C’mon… You can’t even kick your tenant out that easy. I don’t think I even get that “credit card declined” email. If I did, I missed it.

Alright… just a little rant. I do hope they look into this matter and start to think about their policy deep and hard…

Affiliate Marketing via Blogging

Super Affiliate BloggerI want to tell you about one guy – Gobala Krishnan. Gobala came to me a few years ago asking me about the life of a fulltime internet marketer. Nope – I did not mentor him or coaching or what ever. Just gave him some pointers and he’s smart enough to figure out the rest of the plan. Years passed and Gobala is getting better and better. In many aspects, he even surpassed me. I see his progress every step of the way…

Going into the internet marketing arena, Gobala focused on one thing – blogging. One of his earliest online venture he did after we met is WordPress Adsense System, which still sells like hot cakes to this day. With his own product, you know that he’s starting a path as an info-marketer. But he wouldn’t have managed to come up with that product if he hadn’t done thorough and extensive research about blogging, WordPress and Adsense.

And to prove that his blogging strategies work, he also promotes his WordPress Adsense System using blogging. Currently, his site Easy Wordpress, with all of its many mini-sites like the marketplace, lab blog, forum, is a an authority site when it comes to blogging. You can look up his name and you’ll see Gobala being listed as one of the top blogs on WordPress and how to make money online.

As a blogger, apart from blogging and info-marketing, naturally affiliate marketing is one of his main revenue streams. And it doesn’t come in any small amount. As a person that I personally know and have watched his every step over the years, I can vouch for his knowledge and skills when it comes to affiliate marketing.

Recently Gobala launched a new product – Super Affiliate Blogger. Just for the all the things I told you about Gobala, you should check out this product. I believe is a top-notch guide and Gobala really is the guy to learn from. And when Gobala comes out with a product, he makes sure that he covers every possible aspect of the topic. His products will not assume anything in you. So it’s suitable for newbies and experts. He’ll take you every step of the way…

Super Affiliate Blogger is no different. He makes sure that his customers get their money’s worth.

Alright, before you get way ahead of yourself, this is not a magic button. You won’t get rich over a week. But Gobala has some really sound advice when it comes to affiliate marketing and blogging. What he shares are strategies that he has researched and applied for himself. What you will find are true and tested, real world advice, and not some pie in the sky.

If you are looking for another silver bullet, a magic tunnel, then you won’t find it here.

However if you are willing to learn and you are willing to put in the effort, then you’d better check it out.

My Recent Email – Three Types of Membership Sites

Here’s another recent email I wrote to my readers. It’s about the three types of membership sites that you can build, and the software to power it. And at the end, I have a little advice about picking your software. Hint – a lot has to do with support.

=================================================
Before You Dive In – Three Types of Membership Sites…
=================================================

There has been too much talk about membership sites. The
good, the bad, the opportunity… the hype.

Before you dive right in, I want you to be aware what you
are getting yourself into. I want you to be clear about the
type of membership site you will be building…

There are at least three types of membership sites. And
each type is different requires different kind of software
and different kind of management operations.

hmm, writing this makes me want to expand this into a
longer blog post version later…

The three types of membership sites…

[+] Download Area
[+] Content Subscription
[+] Social Networking

Download Area, is a membership site where people sign-up to
get access to the download area. And with a little viral
strategy, you get a Butterfly-type membership site.

This is where you offer something for free upfront. And then
you put up a one-time offer during the sign-up process. And
then, you turn around and offer your members the opportunity
to make m oney as an affiliate. They’ll earn commission from
their referrals that take up the one-time offer.

There are a bunch of software that you can use for this.

- Butterfly Marketing
- Viral Mini-Sites
- Easy Members Pro
- Viral Sales Generator (I use this at OptinDesign.com. Let
me know if you want to get this)

Content Subscription, is the most common type of membership
site. This is where you build a site that you update
regularly, and sell access to the content. Software built
for the Download Area are not suitable for this as they are
not designed for frequently updated content.

For this, I recommend WordPress, which is a solid content
management system. And you tie that together with aMember.
aMember is a durable software, with reliable support. It has
been in the market for years and has proven itself as the
leader in the market when it comes to membership management.

aMember also supports a number of other content management.
If you are more familiar with other content management, you
can use that instead.

- WordPress, and tie it up with aMember

The Social Networking. This is a membership site where you
allow members to actively interact with each others. In away
you are building a MySpace clone, or maybe a Facebook clone.

You may want to set a special theme and attract only a
targeted group of people. It’ll be much more worth for
people to join.

For example, you can build a site that gathers small
business owners. Or maybe a site for hypnotherapists.

Here are two software that I can recommend…

- PHPFox
- Profile Manager Premium

=================================================
A word about looking for software…
=================================================

Here’s my golden rule…

Only go for solutions by a real software developer company
and not software from marketers. And make sure that the
company offering the software has proven track record i.e.
has been around for years, has a good number of clients.

Well, the truth is, most software created by marketers are
poorly supported. The software they created was just to fill
in market need at that time, and normally will not be
developed further. What you buy will most probably be the
only version they will ever have.

For me, I feel a lot safer getting software from a real
software development company, that continues to develop
their software. I know the software I get, it’s proven to
work, because others are using them right now. And even if
it doesn’t go my way, I know it’s backed by a company that
really knows their software – because they are the actual
developer.

Well, I guess that’s all I can say this time.

Before getting into membership sites, make sure which one
you are building, OK…

Feedbacks? Just write back. I love reading reader’s email.
And even if I don’t reply (sorry for that, sometimes I get
to caught up in other things I am doing), I do read your
emails.

Warmest regards,

My Latest Email – Cash Button System

Here’s the latest email that I wrote to my readers. I thought it contain valuable stuffs that you can learn. A bit of a rant though, but I am sure you’ll like it.

=============================================
The story about the instant cash button…
=============================================

I was playing Need For Speed on my Nokia n95. Cool game. And
I was getting really good, I can go for a race and win every
time.

In NFS, you need to qualify yourself from small racing
events to the next bigger ones. Of course, the bigger ones
offer bigger prize money. And finally, I’m qualified for the
biggest racing event. This event offers $5000 cash prize.

With the cash prize, you can upgrade your car, or even get a
totally new one.

And there come a time when all that I needed to do to get
bigger, more powerful cars was just to go for a few races. I
know that I will win every single race I go.

It felt like I can press a button and boom – $5000!

That made me thinking…

Wouldn’t it be nice if in business, I can just press a
button and make $5000 every time?

Sounds like a fantasy. But this really happens in the real
world.

OK, maybe not a “button” so to speak. But some businesses
have put together a system where they can do 1-2-3 and here
comes the cash.

=============================================
The freelancer’s cash button
=============================================

I remember talking to my friend, who is an accomplished web
programmer. He started as a freelancer and later launched a
software development company, doing well over $200k every
year now.

When he was starting out, he taught programming through
training companies. Companies and government agencies would
send their staff for a one week training to learn PHP, and
my friend is the trainier.

To him, doing the training is a sure-fire way to generate
cash to cover his overhead. He can go out and do a 1-week
course (which he’s done dozens of times) and come back with
$1000 in hand.

The rest of the months, he spends building his actual
business, which is developing custom software.

And later, students who came for the training recommended
him when their company needed any custom software
development. It turns out, their company were preparing
staffs for new web projects. They need their staff to be
able to manage the project later. Not develop, just manage.

So they turn to the first guy they know who can develop a
custom software for them.

=============================================
Another example – the funded proposal system…
=============================================

Business is all about systems. If you’ve been struggling in
business, then you ought to stop and look at what you are
doing now.

[+] What are you doing to get customers to you?

[+] What are you doing for long-term success?

[+] Do you have your own instant cash button?

One time ago I learned about the Funded Proposal System.

From my point of view, a funded proposal system is a lead-
generation-cum-instant-cash.

How does it work?

You create a report and sell it. When you sell your report,
you make some money up front. That should cover for your
operations. But what you are really after is customers to
buy bigger things from you.

If you are in web design, maybe you can write a book about
how to effectively manage a company’s website. But your aim
is to generate leads, and later design clients.

Your long-term is of course the hosting, maintenance fee and
repeat sales.

This is similar to the freelance programmer story. The only
thing is that he’s doing training rather than writing a book
but both serve the same purpose.

=============================================
Positioning yourself as the expert…
=============================================

If you really think about this, both stories that I told you
about, they are positioning themselves as the expert. When
people see you as the expert, they will come to you instead
you go looking for them.

The easiest way to make money (online of offline) is to get
people look like an expert.

If you are not an expert, then become one. It’s not that
hard to do. OK, maybe it’s better to start with something
that you are familiar with.

=============================================
Finding your own cash button…
=============================================

Some people are really good with the online. They can put
together a book and use PPC to drive traffic. But don’t stop
there.

Your ebook should lead you to bigger sales. Because it’s a
lot fast to make more with bigger sales.

I mean, it’s better to have two clients paying you $5000
than having 10 clients paying you $1000. Yes, the two
clients you have will be demanding because they paid you a
very high price. And you should deliver something worth the
money they paid for.

But that is nothing like the headache of handling 10 clients
paying you only $1000 each.

Well, you should consider this and price yourself wisely.

But the point about this whole email is to get you to think.

What you should do is start thinking about your cash button
and after that, conver those into bigger sales. That is how
you grow a business.

=============================================
What I am working on right now…
=============================================

Hmm… seems like I am not writing as often as I used to. I
putting together a cash button system for my latest venture.

If you miss getting emails from me, then you know what I am
doing right now. This is an offline project so it requires
me to be away from the computer for quite sometime. But hey,
at least I get this email out.

OK, let me just tell you a little bit about it. I am going
for the offline gold – ;)

Yes, I will be selling online marketing to the offline
businesses. Maybe I will report further how this goes later.

But in the meantime, if you have the basic online marketing
skills, then you can make a huge amount of money selling it
to the offline world.

Just check out the report from Andrew…
