I cut my teeth on Mambo/Joomla when i went online, several years ago. Don't know anything about programming. Mambo almost killed me searching all the modules, mambots, etc. I use WOrdpress on a few sites. Much easier. The problem for Joomla is it is way too powerful. And with power comes responsibility

Between the both, I prefer Joomla for most stuff as it is easier to customized.

If you looking for a blog , go for Wordpress.

If you looking for anything else go for Joomla, Do not use joomla as a blog as the input area is rather small.

Joomla is definately has more type of components, modules and mambot. You need to learn the difference of these 3 items

Just make sure you get the URL friendly component for joomla to make the URL looks nicers

I have using both but I prefer Wordpress anytime.

Joomla is powerful, but it's a beast. If you can tame it, you got power at your fingertip. If not, it will be destructive and take a lot of time and our effort. :)

In the other hand, like Sham said, Joomla has a very strong and big community. Even the Malaysian Joomla section is very active.
