I am researching Joomla for my other website that I am working on. And out of an itch, I thought I’d see which is more popular - WordPress of Joomla?

Right, I am using WordPress for this blog. It’s a great blog software. And for Joomla, it’s more towards portals and content management. Even so, there are people use WordPress for link directories, convert them into full-fledge content management, and more.

As for Joomla, there are people who use them as a blog platform, image gallery community, article directory, shopping cart and many more.

During my research on Joomla, I thought of Google Trends. I thought I’d see which which is more searched by Internet users.

In case you don’t know about this, Joomla is a spin-off from Mambo, another content management system.

OK, I can’t say much about the performance-wise. But I believe these two open source software has huge community behind them. When you are looking for supporting plug-ins, components, themes (template), you will find yourself with a wide range of options.

Community and support is what I look at when choosing for a solution for my website. With huge community, you know that you have options. Let say that your programmer screwed you, you know you can turn to other programmers for help. Unlike in-house built software, you almost can’t do that.

I’m prefer Wordpress. I’m already Joomla at one of my site.I’ve make some mistake there. It’s has a lot of component & module..I put all of them. that make make headache. if you want create a portal. Just use relevant component and module.

Joomla got a lot community.that make you work easier.

I have using both but I prefer Wordpress anytime.

Joomla is powerful, but it’s a beast. If you can tame it, you got power at your fingertip. If not, it will be destructive and take a lot of time and our effort. :)

In the other hand, like Sham said, Joomla has a very strong and big community. Even the Malaysian Joomla section is very active.

Between the both, I prefer Joomla for most stuff as it is easier to customized.

If you looking for a blog , go for Wordpress.

If you looking for anything else go for Joomla, Do not use joomla as a blog as the input area is rather small.

Joomla is definately has more type of components, modules and mambot. You need to learn the difference of these 3 items

Just make sure you get the URL friendly component for joomla to make the URL looks nicers

I cut my teeth on Mambo/Joomla when i went online, several years ago. Don’t know anything about programming. Mambo almost killed me searching all the modules, mambots, etc. I use WOrdpress on a few sites. Much easier. The problem for Joomla is it is way too powerful. And with power comes responsibility
