Discussing Website Flipping
Flipping Websites For Quick Cash
I have been reading, researching a lot on one topic lately. It’s all about buying and selling websites, also known as ‘Flipping Websites’.
On one blog I read that this is like buying fixer-upper house in real estate. You buy houses that are in bad condition, fix it up, increase the value and then put it back to the market.
I’ve known about people buying and selling websites. Infact I am sure you know about big acquisition. I am sure you’ve
heard the recent talk about Google bought YouTube. And some from previous years, Yahoo bought Inktomi and Overture.
And you must also know that all those are HUGE transactions.
What you may not be very familiar about is (I wasn’t), even small websites exchange hands … EVERYDAY!
Website as small as $100.
Infact, there’s this one video report that shows you how to build and sell a website within HOURS. It’s not a huge website at all. With just about 10 articles or so, a domain name … you could flip that into $100 or more.

This is great step-by-step video on how you build a simple website and then turn around and sell for $100. If you can do one of this a day, you can possibly make $2000 to $3000 a month.
OK … maybe I am exaggerating. What you can do is to sell your first website. And after that, maybe you can start planning for more websites.
How About Building “REAL” Websites …
Alright … those are simple websites. Maybe one that uses the BUM marketing strategy.
But I was thinking, I prefer those “webmasters” who build sites that really have value. These past few days, I have been surfing around reading about people buying and selling:
[+] Forums
[+] Blogs
[+] Link Directories
[+] Article Directories
[+] Proxy Surfing Sites
[+] URL Redirection
[+] Social Networking Sites
And these sites go for $5000, $6000, some even 5-figures. If I am not mistaken, Paul Short sold GetBlogs.com to another guy for $15,000. And Tim Phelan sold Pingoat.com to John Reese for $30,000.
And Tim Phelan also sold an ebook about buying, building, increasing traffic, increase PR, increase revenue and selling websites - Flipping Websites: Definitive Guide.

I really like this ebook because Tim tells it from his own experience. You will get to know about the few sites he’s built, bought and sold. And apart from that, Tim also quoted wisdom from tother people like Derek Wong, Steve Celeste (who sells forums) …
And not only that, Tim also shares other stuffs when it comes to this. For example, you need to be careful when buying websites with images, because sometimes people don’t really comply with copyright laws … and you don’t want to have to deal with some legal issues after buying a site.
One more little cool info that Tim shares in the ebook is about knowing where the value is. Sometimes the value of the site is in the number of members it contains, sometimes in the revenue it brings, sometimes in the content that it holds.
There’s this one time, Tim sold a website which didn’t have much traffic but was in a very tight niche. The website is a directory of churches in the Unite States. So this one, the value is in the content … it’s actually a database.
So … I guess this is good book if you want to progress further in this direction. If you are a webmaster, I think this is a must-get ebook.

What I Think About Flipping Websites …
Not too long ago, I decided that the hardest part when it comes to building and sustaining a website is creating content.
And that made me think about how I would build websites in the future. If I were to build a website, I would build
websites with this in mind — “User-Generated Content”
And that is actually what Tim Phelan has been doing. If you read his blog, you see that he’s into social networking sites, services sites …

In the near future, you may see me launch websites using tools and scripts that would make creating content much easier.
If you browse around, you can find scripts like
[+] PHPFox.com - social networking
[+] i-Rater.com - photo-rating
[+] PHPLinkDirectory.com - link directory
[+] VBulletin.com - forum
and many more …
And all these scripts are about building a community and user-generated content.
When you successfully build a website like this, then this is real VALUE. This is something that you can really sell for a huge amount of money.
And even if you don’t sell them, with some monetization strategy, I am sure you can make a lot of money with them.
Upgraded membership, contextual ads, text links, affiliate programs … there are just so many that you can do.
Yes, in the first part, I told you about a resource that you can use and apply for instant cash. But for the long-term, why not build a REAL website.
