What Happened To A Plagiarist
Like how I normally do, I go to RentACoder.com to get a special report written. It’s not a very long one. I just need somethign around 10 to 20 pages. Not many bid for my project. And one of them was this guy … let’s call him Mr. R. Mr. R has an OK feedback. He seems to be a guy that understands search engine optimization and internet marketing. So I let him do the work …
After sometimes, he got back to me with the report. And when I started reading what he wrote, I had this funny feeling. I feel like he’s not really writing what I wanted. Alright, I can write the things that he needed to change. But somehow I still had the funny feeling bugging me. I thought that something could it be wrong … Could it be … ??
I took a few phrases from the report he did and I a search on Google using the quotes (example – “the phrase from report”). And that answered it … it’s true that Mr. R plagiarized many parts of the report. I could find plagiarized content in almost every page in the report. I found the same articles in Wikipedia and some people’s blogs.
While I was OK if the report needs to corrected, I don’t think I can work with a plagiarist anymore. So I reported it to RentACoder.com and said that I don’t want to work with this particular writer anymore. I also sent proof that he was plagiarizing work so that RentACoder.com understand the reason why I want to do this. Some buyer just wanted to get work done for free, and I am not one of those people.
So we went into arbirtration. The writer denied that he was plagiarizing but the proof was obvious. I thought I will just get my escrowed money back and get the project cancelled. But it turns out that Mr. R also got sacked from RentACoder.com.
Well, I didn’t really wanted this for him. But RentACoder.com has always been strict on things like that. They are really thorough with arbitrations and want it to be a safe place for buyers and coders. And I am fortunate that I spotted the problem with the report before I started giving the report away. Whooah … if I didn’t, I am the bad guy then …

Hi Kidino,
besides googling for key phrases, you can upload your page and submit it to copyscape.com
that’s a good way to check content too.

it’s hard when you have to trust strangers to do work for you, yeah? this is the kind of things that make outsourcing so difficult.
