Malaysia’s 49th National (Independence) Day

Today is Malaysia’s 49th National Day. In 1954, delegates from Malaya (now Malaysia) led by Tunku Abdul Rahman negotiated the independence of Malaysia from the British. In 1957, the independence was awarded.

  1. That episode is part of a very interesting period regarding Malaysia and Singapore history. I was born in 1957 in KL (my parents being Dutch) and left for Holland in 67. I wrote a thesis on the economic history of Singapore in 1984. I have many happy memories thinking of Malaysia.
