The Four BIG Adsense Secrets

Is there a BIG secret to the huge Adsense checks? Yes, you’ve seen those screen shots of 5-figure Adsense earning … so have I. And that made you thinking, why are some people earning those huge income, and you are not.

Whatever people may say, I only see these are the only factors that make the difference between your earning and those ‘big-guns’.

1 - Adsense Placement

Yes, putting your Adsense in a special way can be the difference between 1% click-through rate (CTR) and 10% CTR. There have been some strategies outlined where you have to make your Adsense like content. You do that by removing the borders and using the same font color that you are using for your website.

Choosing the bigger Adsense format has always been recommended. It is said that the big square, wide skyscraper are the top performer. Me … yes, I am experiencing good things with these ad formats.

Some may say differently, but I am doing well with the Ad Links too. It’s those text link ads, which requires two-step clicks. I place them like a navigation link on my website, and I am doing quite OK with them.

2 - High Paying Keywords

Here’s another known secret. Go for high paying keywords. If your website is about a topic where advertisers are paying high money for them, then you may get more money with Adsense.

This is common sense. When people are paying $5.00 per click on Adwords, you may get a lot of money on your Adsense. And if the ads that are showing on your website are ads that people are paying $1.00 per click, you may get lesser than a dollar per click.

Known topics where advertisers are paying top dollars are like DUI lawyers, credit card applications, web hosting … you know the rest. And you can even go to Overture Bid Tools to guess what people are paying for certain keywords. If you come across a topic that you think might do well, you can give a try there.

But the problem with this, high paying keywords are normally very competitive when you are trying to drive traffic with search engine optimization (SEO). So some would just go for low hanging fruits.

3 - Get More Traffic

Yep … no secret here. The more traffic you get, the more clicks you are likely to get. And more clicks means more money. But then again, you should think about the type of websites that pull traffic.

I believe many of top earners are actually operating a community-based websites. These are like forums, photo blog service providers, blogs that has grown its readerships and maybe even dating profiles. Another way of doing this is where you get user created content. You allow users to create the content, like put in comments and reviews.

These are the sites that where people keep coming back for more. If you think you can build one like those, then go for it.

On the contrary, many are actually growing sites in smaller niches. And they go for SEO for traffic. I have to say that this is the most popular when it comes to Adsense.

You and I know, there are the good ways and the bad ways to SEO - yes, the white hats and the black hats. Whatever you do, that is your choice. Some people are doing the black hats, but to them, as long as they are in compliance with the Adsense TOS, they have nothing to worry about.

To me, you do what you want and take responsibilities for the outcome. If you are doing black hat SEO, and you are making boatloads of money – then good for you.

And after that, there’re the non-SEO methods. I know of some people who are doing the arbitrage method. They go for high paying keywords, and then advertise their sites for lower prices. And they make profit from the difference. It may sounds strange at first, but some actually made it work.

Other non-SEO methods are like posting at forums, writing articles and doing press releases on their websites.

I have also heard about a strategy where you create an e-course with email, and then send your subscribers to a web pages that contains the lessons and of course, Adsense. This way, you can capture one guy, and probably make money from him/her over and over again.

4 - It’s a Numbers Game

All in all … Adsense is a numbers game. If you find something that is working for you, to make more income is just to do it again and again. For the black hat SEOers, they just build more and more websites.

Unless you successfully build and grow a community-based website, you may want to build more sites. If you build one site that is making $100 a month, then 10 sites would give you $1000. But then again, I would say, you are bound to have sites that will just flop. So out of 10, maybe 3 is doing great, 4 is just so-so, and another 3 just flopped.

If a so-so site makes $30 a month, and a great site is doing $300 a month, with just 10 sites, you might be making $1020 a month.

Just like I said … it’s a numbers game.

    Thanks Kidino,

That’s a good general coverage of the various strategies around and what’s to be expected. I’m experimenting with different adsense techniques.

One technique that is proofing useful is blending them into the site rather than making them look like ads.

Another one which is really sneaky is using a picture next to the ads, so that it draws the eye. It’s not against the terms of service. I use a picture of myself as the article author on one of my sites.

I’ve noticed some good increases as a result of my experimentation.

My blog doesn’t make much from adsense because I only have one
ad block in it. It’s not really designed for adsense - well no site should be. But I have other sites where adsense is the main monetization model.

The point you raised about the numbers game is so true. You must be prepared to have a few flop.

Keep up the good work. Thanks for writing your blog man.

You raise some very good ‘easy-to-understand’ points there, Kidino. AdSense is quite an interesting beast when you really start to ‘hunt its potential income streams’ down.

However, it is always wise to ‘never underestimate’ the constantly changing Algorithms that Google employs in its ceaseless quest for profits - including AdSense / Adwords related profits.

Accordingly, in my opinion it is NEVER a smart thing to rely solely on AdSense income - no matter how much money the John Reese’s, Michael Cheney’s, Liz Tomey’s and Joel Comm’s of this world may claim they have made doing precisely that!

You see, if you look really closely at the four names I’ve just mentioned, as well as making a killing from AdSense they ALL make tons of money selling NON-AdSense related products and services as well (ironically, in most cases, services that tell us “how great AdSense sites can be!”).

    1) John Reese makes squillions from his Reese Report. He also (allegedly) made more than $1ml in a single day when he launched TrafficSecrets a few years back!. John also makes money from selling his own home study courses via affiliates. He has been in the business since BEFORE the Internet was even heard about!

    2) Liz Tomey no doubt makes bucket-loads from affiliate marketing. She has 25+ websites and has been in the Direct Mail business since 1998 and really knows how to build a loyal subscriber base. Her Blog (which is monetized both with AdSense and affiliate products) is worth checking out too - the graphic design is soooooooooo cool!

Michael Cheney fattens his bank account to the tune of $30K+ per month (but only half of that is from AdSense earnings…the other half is from things like “selling his website marketing bible”, a great tool that (no surprises here) tells you how to make a fortune out of AdSense sites! He is a very clever marketer and has learnt to diversify at an early age.

Joel Comm…this guy blows me away! He has the voice of a radio DJ, the entrepreneurial skills of Richard Branson, the writing skills of Joe Vitale, Jo sugarman and Dan Kennedy put together…and he makes a fortune (by my estimate) SELLING eBooks and affiliate products that (you guessed it) “tell us all how we can make a bank-vault full of money from ADSENSE!!!

So, what is my point here?

The point is plain and simple. If you want to be a truly successful internet marketer, don’t EVER hang your money hat on just ONE opportunity such as AdSense. Do what the greatest proponents of AdSense do — learn from them — build for the long term; build your lists; use multi-media to get your message across; sell affiliate products; sell your OWN products; become an expert in your field (or if you can’t do that — at least create the PERCEPTION that you’re an expert in your field!).

AdSense REALLY CAN deliver tons of money to your account each month. No question. But there is no magic bullet. It’s exhausting in every sense of the word…

You have to dig, dig, dig for keywords…research, research, research your niche…build, build, build your sites…add, add, add your content…write, write, write as much ORIGINAL content as you possibly can…search, search, search for optimized back-links as often as you can…track, track, track your CTRs (click-through rates)…optimize, optimize, optimize your keywords…tweak, tweak, tweak your AdSense placements on each page…test, test, test anything and everything to do with your sites…

…and then repeat this process each day, seven days a week!

…oh, and one last thing…learn from the very rare and incredibly rewarding and appreciated way in which KIDINO builds his business…

…by giving HIMSELF to all his subscribers
…by sharing his joys and despairs
…by letting us into his own world at times
…by offering to help his customers solve their problems
…by being honest in all that he does.

    Just my two cents worth:)

Bruce … I agree with you about building business on the Net. As John Reese said, the $500K was a ’side-project’.

And those other names that you mentioned, just like you, I know for a fact that they have other projects. And about Liz Tomey, she go without her online business with no problem at all. Her offline business is just doing so well …

Michael Cheney … Hey … he wrote the Internet Marketing Bible. I am sure he has websites that’re worth millions.

Joel Comm … well, I think before he wrote the Adsense guide, one of his site was bought over by Yahoo.

Yep … I agree with you on this — build for long term. And I also have a project that coming out — one that is built around user created content. But it’s not for Internet marketing community. So I may and may not announce them to my list.

Oh yeah … I agree about your last paragraph too. :P

John Reese is a fine guru, but the one comment in his Adsense video I find to be cute is the “side business” comment. I don’t think building over 300 Adsense sites is a side business. (maybe for John - I don’t know)

Either way, someone had to build all those sites, link them, grow the content on them etc. I’m sure John only spent 120 hours or whatever, but how many hours did his employees work.

DON’T GET ME WRONG! John is an up and up guy. His claims are not claims - they are fact. I just know how much work it takes and how much time it takes to get there. We cleared 10K in Adsense income and we have many site now.

I think the thing that is so good about John’s approach to Adsense is right in the title - VRE (Virtual Real Estate) Even if your 200 or 300 sites did not make big Adsense money, AT THE VERY LEAST you would have all those domains started.

I know from my own experience that ALL sites will earn with Adsense as long as the typical SEO strategies are put into practice.
