My Personal Reminder — Becoming a Solopreneur

Some people think that when you send in your resignation letter to work fulltime on the Internet, it’ll be like a retirement. Some may think that I have secured my income and my financials, and I’ll be putting my legs up, and doze off during the days. Some may think that I will be going on vacation trips most of the times …

Well … not true.

This is just like going into business for yourself — Internet or no Internet — it’s business.

What this means is there’s no more ’secured’ income for me. When in the office, I can get away postponing tasks a day or two, I can get away slacking off a bit here and there, and by the end of the month, my income is the same as last month. But now, I have to be busting my ass a lot more to put food on the table. And it means that if I don’t make the sales, I don’t eat. And it also means that I don’t have anymore medical benefits.

But there’re plus points as well … being able to make money on Internet means that you can be at home a lot more. I get to relax a lot more. I don’t have a boss anymore. Now I don’t have to travel 80km everyday. I don’t have to spend so much on tolls.

I want to say it out that I believe this is going to be an interesting, exciting journey for me. I am one month away from that. As of now, I am still serving the resignation notice period. But even with all that, I just want to remind myself that there’s a lot more to be done.

I for one have been a ’solopreneur’ (did u just invent this word, hehe?) for a number of years now, more like over 10 yrs actually (13 yrs to be exact as a netrepreneur), and believe it or not, there have always been food on the table, lots of it, most of the time.

But, still being single is a plus…. your case would be a more adventurous and challenging one I suppose. Anyway, I have a gut feeling, you’ll make it good… Hidup Kidino ;) !!

BTW, I really do second you on the BUSINESS side of ‘net business’. As long as one doesn’t fall into one of those get-rich-quick traps, s/he be fine…
