formula3G - Thanks for the honesty. I guess it’s because that it works that I (and others) use it.

Wayne - Glad to know that you are interested in this. I hope I can have everything ready this week.

That’s great for thepublisher but you are going to ahnoy the hell out of your visitors. Why do you think people use pop up blockers in the first place. I would advise against it.

    Kidino said [17 October 2005 @ 3:27 pm]

Hello Blogtonomy - thanks for the input. Well, the way I see it, you can use it ethically or you can abuse it - just like any other tools in this world.

I like using pop-ups but you don’t see me over doing it.

And I hate it too when you got lost at some p**n/warez sites that keeps pushing new pop-ups one after the other. And you have to click it away one by one.

But I don’t think that you can really do that with this type of DHTML pop-ups (which is really not a pop-up). Even if you can … you are just one click away from throwing it all away.

Oh … and BTW … you can’t really make exit pop-ups with this. So no new pop-up will appear after closing the window.

    Hey Kidino,

I know many people don’t like popups, but they do work. This type is less obtrusive and as you said before are nothing like the annoying popunders, or exit popups. These are actually are more like a part of the page than a popup.

I think this is a great tool. Can’t wait to give it a try!

    Hey Kidino,

Great work, I had a look at the refs you provided but couldn’t understand enough to follow to build it yet.

Just want to congratulate you on your marketing approach. You take something, use it yourself, and then teach people with skills less than yours how to do it in simple language. This is providing real value to us your subscribers, and I must say it is refreshing compared to the approach of most “gurus”.

A pop-up is a marketing tool, and can be used judiciously or maliciously. You demonstate how to do it and set an axample of how to use it without upsetting people. Thanks again.

Very cool. Any way of making this drop down onto the page after a couple of seconds? And any way to make it movable, like off to the side if someone wants to just move it? By slowly dropping in I think makes it maybe less obtrusive? I guess some people will hate it no matter what, but thanks for sharing this with us.

    Hi Kidino,

I must admit to being far from a fan of pop-ups … especially those that move and shake across your window! They may well ‘work’ but most are intensely annoying from my point of view.

This, however, is something else! Being both eye-catching, unobtrusive and easily removed, this is something I would use!

Many thanks for sharing it with us.

Kidino, this is great and you will get a lot of people wanting this. I know that one of the shortcomings of Armand’s product is that it can’t be used as a “name squeeze” vehicle like Tracy suggests. Would be tough to do IMO since it is a graphic but nonetheless if anyone can figure out how to do it, the product will go thru the roof.

Peter says it would be good to integrate with a “post it” style bulletin board. If you are in to forum-type marketing phpBB has a style called noteboard in which using these types of popups would blend seemlessly. You can see it at one of my old “dead” sites that I had to stop while starting to create XSP sites. :) It’s:
http://www.etoolsandsolutions.com/geektalk/index.php (just look for the forums) Using a postit popup on this most certaining would not look out of the ordinary.

Also, for the rest of you to know, these types of popups are called “instant Attention” and not “Instant Detraction.” That’s why you don’t want them flying in like other types of DHTML pops. They can appear with a delay as well as disappear at a timed interval but you DON’T want them flying in like normal square boxes as that defeats the purpose of them. Think about it for a minute. You never see real life “post its” flying in, they are just there to grab your attention.

I’m using Armand’s product on some of my blogs. It really does command attention without being annoying. I’m really looking forward to seeing the progress of this thing.

It’s pretty. I like these kinds of pop-ups, much more interesting than the plain and Boring run-of-the-mill pop-ups…

I have a membership(monthly fee) to a site that has a lot of templates(really cool ones) and then a little while later you see Armand Morin “copying” and selling his own software(one time fee) to make these types of pop-ups…

    God Bless,

Great tool by far! And I “greatly” disagree with all those who said stuff like “why do you think people have pop-up blockers…etc etc”, this is really NOT a pop-up! It is part of the page itself.. maybe rename it? How bout something like a “stick-up” instead lol? This is like having a note stuck to your desk at your outside job, non-abtrusive. And I think it will go over very very well. Am looking forward to directions.

Raza, The post that you made above is neither friendly nor nice.

Personally, i think that advertising a competitive product in this area is very sharp business practice and perhaps frowned on by many in here.

For any who may be interested, Raza’s product is similar, but is NOT cheaper ( 49 USD) nor can I see any competitive advantage after having read his page.

Kidino, i would put a rel nofollow tag on Raza’s link so that you don’t potentially/inadvertantly bleed out PR or give Page Credit to a direct competitor.

    Warm regards

    trevor,
There are competitive advantages to it .

    1) I give 1 free custom popup. I have in house designers ready to make per your specifications.
    2) I give a lot of designs for free along with every download.
    3) Its a lot easy to do something with mouse clicks and wizards rather then going through all the tutorials etc.

Regarding competition, i think kidino is not selling it as a product, he just posted a simple tutorial to which i replied back .

    Thanks

Hey Kidino, is there a way in your code to make the target URL from clicking the popup open in a new window? I tried to put ” target=”_blank” ” into the code where the URL goes (between the ‘ and ‘ there) but that did not work. I guess it’s not formatted right for that…

Anyway if this is not hard to do and I just made some stupid mistake please let me know how to do this. If it needs something else to make this work, maybe you can do it in a future version of your code?
