I found it interesting that no one had yet taken your advice about trackbacks with this particular post. It’s solid advice, and has provided me with relationships I would not have otherwise. Plus it increases blog readership.

I have actually been in the situation you’re referring to and emailed many of the marketers from whom I receive newsletters and had some affiliation with. I received mixed results based on my approach.

Even after having been a long time subscriber and getting literally thousands of emails from some of them, I found that the majority of the “gurus” were obstinate in responding to emails when the emails were written to recruit their sales expertise. The worst of the lot told me that she does not promote the efforts of a nobody and that I should buy her $4500 seminar to get all my questions answered!

However, I also received positive results. My successful results came from the emails I sent to request help and advice (making sure to personally acknowledge something that I liked about them) from marketers that were either on the rise in their industry (not yet full of themselves), or those who had requested feedback from their readers (the compassionate experts). In fact, the results from this approach were so positive, that I didn’t even finish my mail-out before I received what was needed to move forward on my project.

So, can I email you now? LOL – just kidding.

Great post on a very vital subject.

This is something I read somewhere, but should be very effective, in terms of getting your email read if you are especially trying for a JV or even trying to get a link back.

Idea is a simple post card with a nice picture and some nice comments about their website and a small note asking them to look for your email.

This is something I am going to try for my linking campaign.
