Coaching a Newbie … What to Say?

I am sure that some of my subscribers here are doing so much better than I am. No doubt about it …

I just want to share a story that happened to me recently. I know this guy, who works in Canada. He’s a subscriber. But we have been emailing, and we’re like close friends …

Anyway, he emailed me recently asking if I can help her daughter, who is in Europe, with online business.

I thought … hmmm …

I have never done this before, except for an ex-colleague. And we meet every now and then and share how each others progress.

But as for this long-distance relationship … at first I was nervous. I wasn’t sure if I was up for this. And at the same time, I was thinking about what can I possibly teach her? But I just couldn’t let down a friend.

So I just stepped up, and agreed. Come to think of it, I’ve been wanting to teach friends and families about what I do - but they never wanted to learn. Skeptism I would say. But this one … she’s a ready student.

The first email that I sent, I told her about how this is not an instant money thing. But rather, I told her that this requires time and money, just like running a normal business. The advantage of an internet business is that you can start small, do it part-time from home, and have very small overhead.

After that, I asked about how much she is willing to commit to financially per month. You see, even internet business requires investment. Not much, but you still need to spend.

I didn’t asked this, but I assume she has plenty. It’s time. How much time are you willing to spend each day building the business?

I was right about her having plenty of time when she replied she understand this business requires patience and persistency.

And after we got all that out of the way … I asked again, “Do you have anything that you are good at, or interested in, or any hobbies?”

And later, she wrote a long paragraph on how she likes to help couples with problems in their relationships. Couples can be married, steady or just dating …

It turns out that she’s a psychologist herself. Talk about surprises.

I see her passion in there … and that will be the focus of her online business.

I haven’t replied to her latest email. I’ll do that soon. But I just feel that I have to share this with you. If you are starting out, or know helping out someone else who is starting out, you may want to pose the same questions to that person.

I have a plan for my ‘apprentice’ (LOL!).

I thought it’ll be interesting to share with you the progress as we go along.

But sorry, as much as I’d like show you the URL (when it’s ready), I won’t be doing that. I have a phobia with copycats :P

Please leave some comments … would really appreciate them …

That was such a great question to ask her. You were able to help her identify her passion and therefore you helped her to be more focused on her new venture. I am a Personal Development Coach and I believe that asking the right questions will alwys produce the best results.

    Good job!
