Thought He Knows It All
You see, as a web programmer that can write web applications in PHP, Perl and ASP, I have a big ego when it comes to paying a huge amount of money for services like Aweber. I don’t like the idea of having to pay for a huge monthly fee when I can get a free script available on the Internet and just installed it to get it running. Or at the very least, I thought I could just buy a script and install that. Maybe I have to pay big, but it’s just a one-time purchase. Not something I have to commit to monthly. Let me tell you about some scripts that are available out there.
I can’t really say which one I used, but let me just say that I tried a few … After downloading the script and get it unzipped, I read through the manual. And that was breeze. Not that because I understood everything that it said, but because there weren’t much of a manual to start with. OK, now I need to get installed. I already have a web hosting account that allows me to have multiple domain names. So things should be up and running shortly … so I thought. But this is where the real nightmare started. I found out that my web hosting either don’t have the requirements to get the script running or purposely put a number of restrictions on mailing list and autoresponder scripts. Later I found out that some web hosting companies have rules against autoresponder scripts, just like the one that I tried to get installed. Some put a limitation that I can only send out 100 emails in an hour. Some put it “clear in the fineprints” that they do not allow autoresponder scripts at all. And once you do use one, they have the rights to terminate your account without any notice. Imagine if that happens to your mailing list with 1000 subscribers. You’ll lose your business in a heartbeat. The truth is, web hosting companies are just protecting themselves. They don’t want their IP addresses get blacklisted for spamming. If IP addresses get blacklisted, no email can go in or out of the server. It will always get bounced back to you. And it will cost thousands of dollars to get the IP address off the black list. Do you know that with a shared hosting account, the web hosting company will put in a few hundreds clients in one server. That’s why they call it “shared” hosting. And that also means you share the same IP address with others. Imagine sharing the server with a spammer … But it was clear, after all that trouble, I wasted so much time trying to put my autoresponder together when what I should be doing was build my business. If I went with Aweber from the start, I could have an autoresponder up and running in 5 minutes. Anyway, with all that hassle, I thought maybe I better go with a hosted solution like Aweber. To Solve The Problems, I Moved
To A Hosted Solution. But Did I Go For Aweber This Time? No, I Did Not …
This one thing alone is a good enough reason why you should go with a hosted solution. In my case, I was trying to squeeze my expenses. So I went with a cheaper autoresponder solution. No need to name names here. At first I was happy. I started with their small account for just $8.95 a month. I can have up to 2,500 subscribers in there. But pretty soon I have over 6,000 subscribers. The company pushed my account to their third level. The third level entitles me to 10,000 maximum subscribers and it was costing me $19.95 per month. Things were still doing fine. I wasn’t complaining. But one day, I had a web design job where the client wanted me to put together her autoresponder. And she’s using Aweber. She handed me her username and password so that I can access her account at Aweber. Not that’s when it happened … When I am inside I saw how cool Aweber is. It’s normal that you can set sequential messages, broadcast messages to your subscribers, manages your subscribers … but Aweber has more. What attracted me were three things that normal autoresponder services don’t have.
Reports and statistics are obvious. Click tracking converts your links to links that Aweber can track. Then you’ll how many people clicked on the links in your emails. Now, Automation Rules the coolest thing in there. This is the thing that attracted me most. Let me explain how this works. Let say that you are selling an ebook titled 101 Festive Cooking Recipes. And you also offer a free e-course from your autoresponder. You call it 10 Easy Ways To Make Your Food Looks And Taste Better. Now, a prospect may not get your ebook right away. But you have an interesting e-course and she may subscribe to that. Plus it’s free anyway. Now you have a PROSPECT list. Apart from sharing your 10 cooking tips, you also have the opportunity to promote your main product again. While going through your e-course, your prospect decided to get your ebook when she went through the 7th tip on the 7th day because you have been mentioning so many times. Now that she’s a customer, will you still promote your ebook in your e-course? Why don’t just take her off that list all together and put her on your CUSTOMER list. With this you can clearly distinguish a prospect from a customer. And when you want to send something special to your customers, you can just send it to your customers. And when you want to write an email to your prospects, you know there are just your prospects. That is what the Automation Rules can do for you. Aweber Has So Much More Useful

Company! With the one that I was using, they don’t have all that. I can’t see if my links are being clicked, they don’t have graphical reports and statistics, and they don’t have “Automation Rules” which is so cool to have. And here’s where it get to me … the price that I am paying for my autorepsonder service and the price that Aweber is offering is the same. With either company, I get to have up to 10,000 subscribers for $19.95 a month. But Aweber has more features that I can really use. So here I am again, going through the trouble of moving my list to Aweber. And the thing is, I know about Aweber from way back when I was playing with autoresponder scripts. I could have saved myself a lot of troubles and time, and would probably have made more money by now. Let me just show the features that Aweber has and the company that I was using has.
Well, there are more features to compare. But I think you get the idea. The Old Company was all right. They have all the basic features you need to run a mailing list or an email newsletter. I wasn’t complaining until I found out what I was missing. Don’t Make The Mistake I Did.
